  Egton Bridge, eight miles from Whitby in the North York Moors National Park, is the setting for the oldest surviving gooseberry show in the country, established in 1800. The show is held on the first Tuesday in August each yearby the Egton Bridge Old Gooseberry Society. Upholding the 19th century tradition of finding the heaviest gooseberry has always been of utmost priority at Egton Bridge in North Yorkshire. Some 200 years after its origin, entrants to this competition at St Hedda's Schoolroom are as enthusiastic as ever.
• 11th August: Danby Agricultural Show
  Danby Agricultural Show. On the showfield opposite the vicarage. From either Castleton or Danby head for Ainthorpe. Take the road South up Danby Dale when you find Danby primary School. The showground is a quarter of a mile on the right.
  All manner of Country crafts, Horse Jumping, Vintage Agricultural Machinery, Livestock classes, Sheep Dog trials, and lots more.

  The Popular Egton Horse and Agricultural Show is returning for it's 121st year.
• Bank Holiday Monday 30th August: Antique and Collectors fair, Danby Village Hall
  between 10am and 4pm. Admission 50p (Donated to Local Charities). Refreshments available, Free Parking.
