Houlsyke has a access to country walks and is located below Beacon Hill from which visitors get the benefit of a wonderful view of the Esk Valley.

Providing Youth Events and activities for the area, with past events including - Games and nonalcoholic cocktail bar in Houlsyke village hall, Gospel concert in Whitby, skating at Billingham Forum and Sailing. Heritage
Research is currently being carried out to bring you further details on the heritage of Houlsyke.
Less than a century ago Houlsyke was part of a thriving
business centre. The area at that time was a well known for
it's pig rearing and the centre for this activity was Houlsyke.
Pigs were reared, killed, and cured before being transported
to Whitby by horse drawn wagons.
Sheep and Wool products were also traded here as well.
Houlsyke The Hamlet supported a Public House
known as 'The Fat Ox' and also had a carpenter's shop. The
Fat Ox is now an ordinary house.
