Lealholm

The River Esk forces it's way through a steep gorge called 'Crunkley Gill' and emerges in the village of Lealholm, with stone cottages, a village green, and stepping stones over the river it is not surprising that this is a spot that is popular with photographers and artists alike.

Lealholm is a picturesque village that is worthy of inclusion on everyones itinerary. Facilities include a place of worship, (Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church), The Board public house, a post office, a bakery, a general store, a riverside cafe, a garden centre, a car park, and Lealholm Station on the Middlesbrough to Whitby main line.
In 1890 this was a hamlet called Lealholm bridge in the Parish of Glaisdale. At some time a Paper mill existed here employing some 20 people and it was as a river crossing that Lealholm grew and became a focal point for the surrounding dales.

The Shepherd's Hall was used for social functions and dances. Sometimes the small room would become so full of enthusiastic revellers that props had to be brought and placed beneath the dance floor to prevent it collapsing.

The prefix of the Post Code for Lealholm is YO21-2.
