Local Sights
Sandsend has a wonderful long sandy beach with rockpools at the Northern end and has access to some spectacular country walks.
At low tide, a walk under the cliffs at the North of the
village provide the possibility to explore the hidden world of rock pools where you may discover small fish and crabs, other marine creatures, shell fish and anemones. If you look carefully you have the
the chance to discover a Fossil or two. As always be aware
of danger of falling cliffs also check the tide times and do not become cut off by the rising
tide.
Walking along the beach you will often see surfers on their boards, making the most of the waves. Talking to some of them on the beach they say that
"Sandsend is the best surf spot on this stretch of coast, the surf type is beach-break, the swell is massive at times and there are occasional monster waves with good barrels".
If you try your hand at surfing, make sure that you have the right equipment and are suitably trained as the currents can be dangerous.
